Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered into a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. Bremer County Criminal History does not retain or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email sent to us may be kept long enough to review and answer it. Messages remain within the organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers may receive standard technical information whenever a page loads:
- Page-view times and the pages visited
- The referring site, when that information is available
- Device type and operating system
- Browser name and version
- Time spent on individual pages
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help measure traffic patterns, including which pages receive visits and where a session ends. Analytics providers can combine that usage into summary reports. A browser can block cookies, although doing so may change how some features behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Sending a search request to the selected partner service
- Maintaining site availability and performance
- Finding and correcting technical failures
- Measuring which pages are useful to visitors
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Bremer County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its reference material identifies access routes through the Bremer County Sheriff, Iowa District Court, Iowa DCI Criminal History Record Dissemination Unit, and Iowa Sex Offender Registry. The site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not turned into a consumer report or a file about another person.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies supply the search-box services. Information submitted through a box is handled under that provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each partner chooses its retention and disclosure practices. Review those terms before entering a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Bremer County Sheriff, Iowa court portals, state agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows an external link, the destination's privacy policy applies. Check it before providing personal information.
Advertising companies may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select targeted ads. We do not operate that tracking infrastructure.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal data. Limited information may be available to:
- Analytics providers measuring site traffic and performance
- Search partners processing a query submitted to their tool
- Advertising networks placing ads on site pages
- A government or law-enforcement body acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices are used to protect collected information. No internet-connected service can guarantee perfect security, so a breach-free system cannot be promised.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If such information is identified, a deletion request may be made.
Your Data Rights
Rights may vary with the law that applies to a visitor. Iowa Code chapter 22 governs access to records held by government bodies, while Iowa Code chapter 692 governs dissemination of criminal-history data; neither turns this private reference site into a public records custodian. Visitors may still ask to:
- Obtain a copy of personal information we maintain about them
- Correct personal information that is inaccurate
- Request deletion of personal information
- Object to certain processing where the law provides that choice
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as practices or legal requirements change. A revised version will appear here with a new effective date.
